Tension
Artist Statement:
Tension represents my extreme anxiety and how I have coped with it throughout my life. I experience different levels of anxiety, but it is at its worst whenever someone I love or respect raises their voice in conflict. When this happens, my body reacts strongly and I panic. My throat constricts, making it difficult to breathe and swallow, while it seems my intestines twist or knot, making me feel nauseous. In these moments, my first reaction is to cry out for help, which relieves the immediate discomfort.
To escape the long-term stress and tension, I have found relief in creative projects that ground me, such as crocheting, painting nails, and enjoying time with loved ones. These activities help distract my mind while creating a sense of serenity.
